Where do you find inspiration for your design projects?
I almost always start with nature – there is a direct connection between the interior and exterior of a space including the natural environment in which the structure is situated to create a harmonious flow throughout the space. Elements I take into consideration include color, light, climate, texture.
What is your process with your clients?
We talk about how they envision their new space design and why they want to change the space. We discuss this in relation to themselves in terms of how they live their life inside the space and how they plan to use the space. Most want to express themselves with a design that reflects who they are now and how they intend to evolve in the space over time.
How do you choose your materials?
My creative process begins with an inspiration communicated by my client. I choose materials to reflect that – through a mix of color, texture and scale in a variety of formats. I also like to use materials that have green qualities for less of an environmental impact and a more healthy interior environment.
What is the most important quality when you are looking for tile?
Product durability for the particular application it will be used for. Materials need to function properly in the space they are specified for. Tile is a long-term investment that will be highly visible and used for years.
